Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with Environment Focus

We help business enterprises design and manage relevant social responsibility projects which have an environment related focus. We assist with ideation, design, implementation and post implementation support.

What is Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR?

Corporate Social Responsibility is the set of impactful actions a business takes by intent for the betterment of society and environment beyond both the interests of the organization as well as statutory compliances. Many corporates consider this as a strategic initiatives whilst some others view it as an ethical action. Many corporates who practise CSR with a deliberate positive intent, integrate social and environmental concerns in the entire value chain of corporate business and transparently communicate and report on this to their internal and external stakeholders. CSR has a big positive impact when planned and executed with a creating shared value approach.

Whilst many countries have mandated reporting on CSR activities, India became the first country in 2014 to mandate by law that large corporates have to spend a certain sum of money each year on CSR activities.

How do we help Clients?

We help clients from the stage onwards once they have decided to focus one or more of their initiatives towards betterment of environment. At the outset we try and understand the purpose or intent of this focus in context of the organization’s mission, vision, strategy, goals as well as its materiality analysis. We then provide all of our solutions in a holistic engagement or one or more in a selective engagement as per needs of the client. Our solutions include:

  • Programme ideation and concept development
  • Converting the chosen concept by the client into a manageable yet impactful Programme
  • Identifying and facilitating collaborations and partnerships with other entities if needed for successful implementation of the Programme
  • Programme Implementation
  • Programme Management including periodic assessment including quality assurance
  • Formatted communication and reporting on Programme performance to client and any other relevant stakeholders
  • Measurement and Verification (M&V) of impact

 Examples from our past work

As part of a joint Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by a consortium of banks in India, we were tasked with reducing emissions from traditional kilns used by rural potters. Under this project three energy efficient kilns were designed by us and built by the potters under our guidance using the traditional techniques with some additional material content. These kilns are easier to use and there is no direct smoke emission and much lower heat radiation from the walls hence the potter and family can move about without the discomfort they had to endure when using the traditional kiln. With better combustion of the fuel, and utilising the waste heat from the exhaust, the improved kilns require up to 30% lesser fuel to provide the same output as traditional kilns.
